A complete Linux environment online
Every CoCalc project is a full Ubuntu-based Linux system running in your browser: a complete userland with bash, git, curl, and the package ecosystem of a normal Ubuntu machine; compilers like the gcc toolchain are one apt-get install away.
Passwordless sudo works in every project, and apt-get installs persist in a per-project overlay that survives restarts and moves with the project.
- Persistent home directory with snapshots as often as every 15 minutes plus off-host backups
- Run web apps and services on any port behind an authenticated project URL
- SSH, scp, sftp, and rsync access, including project-to-project SSH
